What advice would you give to those pursuing their dreams?

I had to answer the question above for an email interview I sent in just now and below is my answer:

“Dreams are best if they serve someone else besides your own self. Many people think dreams are solely what pleases self and self alone. It’s the “do you” or “yolo” generation. And to be honest, I totally disagree with that. I do believe that you do things because you find fulfillment in it - it just depends what kind and what motivation. Sooner or later, we all will realize that we’re all hardwired to care. It’s not about “pleasing” people but “serving” them - and that’s the main difference. Pleasing implies that you submit to another person (or group of people)’s imperfect expectations, which we all know pretty much sets you up for failure. I do music not to please the music industry and the pop culture status quo but because I know there are people out there who’s willing to listen …and listeners who are moved by the music and lyrics I share. This is my advice because pursuing dreams should be more than paying your bills, momentary claim to fame, and waiting for your retirement check to kick in.”
