[…excerpt from an email he just sent me a few days ago. :) Dude is so encouraging. As you can imagine, I had a smile on my face after I read this. I’m encouraged. TL is such a lovable guy.]

If you actually saw this cover when it was first posted 3 years ago… YOU GET 10000000 points. Thank you for sticking around. And you’ll still see Tony’s comments as the top rated one. ha! ♥ -mp

polination:

This was Melissa Polinar’s rendition of Tony Lucca’s original “Death of Me.” Posted in 2008, Tony discovered this video and commented. It was the start of their friendship and music collaborations shortly thereafter. Support Melissa’s friend Tony on this season’s The Voice competition on NBC.

I had the opportunity to see Melissa Polinar’s show in LA over the summer and Tony Lucca made a guest appearance to perform “Back to You,” an original song cowritten by the two of them. I instantly fell in love with the realness of the song and knew I needed to know more of their music. I love them both so much and I am happy to see Tony Lucca getting so much more attention on The Voice. TEAM LUCCA!!
Plus, I so very much appreciate the value of Twitter since Melissa retweeted me and replied to my tweet! It’s awesome to feel so connected to someone I admire and respect so much!!

…and you’ve just been reblogged on Tumblr as well. :) Thank you for the lovin’. My residency at Room 5 last year was definitely a highlight in 2011. Tony was so gracious (Allen Stone was there that night too to sing a co-written with me) enough to sing “Back to Me” with me. I love singing that song and I don’t sing it often enough since I don’t have Tony always at hand at every show! <3

Honestly though, one of my musical heroes who I’m blessed to call a friend! I totally look up to this guy since forever and he’s been one of the most encouraging people (as far as musicians go) in my life. ♥ Definitely one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet. Congrats Tony!!!

“Back To Me” - Tony Lucca’s version

…with Sara Bareilles.

And yes, I’m planning to do my own version (officially released) someday.

My Taylor guitar has been feeling left out lately…

I was determined to learn “Back To Me” (my co-write with Tony Lucca) on the guitar for a while now. I never knew how to play it ‘cause I’ve relied on Tony whenever we perform the song onstage.

I had to figure out the alternate tuning and the fingering on my own…etc. So for the past few months, I put my Taylor on the particular alternate tuning so whenever I pick it up, I’m “forced” to learn the song and determined to make it second nature. It is a different level to learn to play it and sing at the same time.

So here’s progress.

I just got back from a trip. I’m exhausted for some reason but I wanted to relax with playing and singing. I apologize for looking mightily tired.

••• sharing is caring •••

here’s a song I wrote with Tony Lucca and Nick Bearden months back. I just got the audio file of our acoustic/demo recording last night and decided to just share with you a clip of it. It’s called “When It’s Love That You’re Ready For.” The clip is the chorus/bridge. And below are the morsels of lyrics and yes » ©2011

•••

(t. lucca/n. bearden/m. polinar)

CHORUS:

when you trust your eyes will see
that once you give yourself completely
you’ll find your heart won’t hurt anymore
in beats rest assured
when its love that you’re ready for

Bridge:

every heartbreak
every mistake
and every last shadow of doubt
all that we live for
we forgive and forget more
with love somehow
I’m ready now - I’m ready now

•••

goodnight/morning…

Besides seeing videos, I don’t even remember the last time I saw Tony sing this song live! This is the song that got me lovin’ for the Lucca. And this happens to be the song that I covered on my YouTube years back that pretty much brought us together as musical collaborators and importantly, friends. :) Awww.

…the soulful and intense side of… tony. so. so. so. good. :)

“Death of Me” Tony Lucca

Video

There’s the “Meant To Be” and/or the “Try” that every artist have in their back pocket to sing at almost every show - the “people-pleasers.”

This one. Well, first of all…I don’t get to sing with him often. Barely anyone knows this song in comparison to my other tunes. It’s one of those MP “deep cuts” and most won’t appreciate unless they dig deeper.

There’s a part of me that doesn’t believe I helped cowrite this thing…

“Back To Me” LIVE @ SXSW (Austin, TX) with Tony Lucca

This upload is in my channel (unlike the one I posted previously here on Tumblr) and Tony’s bass player (Steve) provided the raw footage.

…anyways, I’m still recovering from a bug. It’s almost 4am - I gotta sleep…

and yes, that’s TL (tony lucca) with the guitar.

“Anchored” - Tony Lucca

This song reminds me of James Taylor - with just the way Tony sings it. And I heart James Taylor.

Such a great, relaxing song… and that lyric hook: “…drowning in love, anchored to you.“

Me and Tony singin’ “Back To Me”

I wish there are more of these in the future.

Tony Lucca…
One of the few guys that I really look up to (well, literally ‘cause I’m short)…Not only as a musician, songwriter, and singer - but also as a person. I can’t say that I know him extensively but with the amount of interaction we’ve had in the past year or so, I’ve learned that…This guy takes his craft seriously and it’s very inspiring. I also love how he’s encouraging. When I met up with him to sing “Back To Me” (our cowrite) at one of his shows in SXSW, he was complementary and said something poignantly sweet before I went up to sing with him. It’s not that I needed the praise, I just felt an extra boost of encouragement from someone who has done “this music thing” longer than I have - a perspective that has met many artists, singers, and musicians along the way.
I think what it was…I felt as though, he just genuinely believed in me.
Thankful to have him as a friend.
…And I don’t think he realized what he just contributed to my spirit…
It wouldn’t have come at a better time.
